The best frizzy hair tips

I hate having frizzy hair! These Hair Stylist Tips to Smooth Frizzy Hair will be a huge help!

To avoid frizz, I recommend keeping your hair ends trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks; for hair that has lots of elasticity, you can trim every 3 months. This consistent trimming is a great way to avoid frizz on both straight hair and curly textured hair as well. Visit your stylist for the hydrating conditioners and suggested styling products to keep the frizz in control.

With naturally curly, smooth, wavy or kinky hair, I suggest making use of moisturizing conditioners and shampoos daily. These are products designed for high humidity. They hydrate the hair from the inside out. The great thing about this recommendation is that these moisturizing products work for relaxed hair, too.

The higher the humidity, the more smoothness and shine will begin to take place on the hair shaft. The hair will feel just as soft to the touch as it will be pleasant to smell. Some of these conditioners can be a bit expensive, but you will truly love the results every time. Oh, and the distinct fragrances and smells of these products I’m recommending are to die for!

These lines provide hydration moisture and healthy building for both the hair and the scalp, but I especially recommend these products:
Kevin Murphy line: Hydrate-Me Wash shampoo, and Hydrate-Me Rinse conditioner.

Frizz can be a huge problem, especially during the summer here in Virginia. The best way to avoid frizz is PRODUCT, PRODUCT, PRODUCT!

Some of my favorites are: Super Skinny Serum by Paul Mitchell, you can apply this to wet hair before blow drying or to dry hair before flat ironing (a little goes a long way). Also, Straight Sexy Hair’s Smooth & Protect Flat Iron Hairspray ROCKS! It gives the hair shine while protecting from the heat of the flat iron.

During the summer your hair absorbs the moisture from the air which is what causes it to frizz out or curl up on you. So make sure your hair is properly hydrated during the summer/hot, muggy months to keep it tame. Paul Mitchell’s Moisture Shampoo/Conditioner is GREAT! For my curly heads out there DEVA CURL ROCKS you can use the shampoo/conditioner even when you plan to wear your hair straight. I use the conditioner like it’s going out of style 🙂

Create a style that goes with your hair type. When it’s humid, hair tends to have a mind of its own. Don’t fight it… embrace it! If you have straight hair, stay away from curls. If you have curly hair, choose waves or loose curls as your look for the day. Don’t over-dry, and use a smoothing serum layered with a light smoothing gel to hold the style. But don’t go crazy with the product….less is more.

Smoothing treatments are a great way to avoid frizz. My go-to is Brazilian Blowout. There is no down time, and it lasts for 12 weeks. I have gotten them regularly since summer arrived. My clients love them because the result is manageable, frizz-free hair for vacations and beach time.

I use these products on my clients and when I go to the salon: Brazilian Blowout Acai Daily Smoothing Serum is fantastic. Apply a quarter size to ends, and comb through. You can either air dry or apply before styling. Oribe Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray is FANTASTIC. I am addicted to it. It’s light, yet holds and leaves hair with bounce and movement. It also smells incredible.

I get to tackle frizz every day here on Maui. I like basic old school Joico styling lotion or light weight gels with a little drop of a Kerastase Ultime Elixer serum, run through wet hair and blow dry. The trick is make sure hair is dry, if there is any moisture in the hair it will frizz as soon as it hits the humidity. I find people who shampoo too often are fighting frizz because the hair is too clean, they then need to add oils or serums to tame the dryness.

If wearing hair natural and curly and frizz free I love Shu Uemura Art of Hair Kaze Wave, run through wet hair then air dry, once dry tame with a serum or Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Oil in Cream to tame frizz and freshen up the curls.

I recommend a fresh blowout with a small portion of an anti frizz product when the humidity is hight. Apart from Brazilian blowouts (the non toxic variety are okay for the short term), the use of a straightening iron with a thermal protectant is always a sure way to avoid frizz. To extend the life of this blowout, use a dry shampoo directly after the blowout.

My go-to products are evo hair‘s icon welder hot tool shaper (thermal protectant), liquid rollers curl balm, end doctor smoothing sealant (protects & binds the ends), water killer dry shampoo and love perpetua shine drops.
