Just yesterday I shared the new Getaway Makeup Clutch on Instagram, and it just so happened to be the same day that I was sharing the best new travel makeup bags, a list I had written a few weeks before learning about the Getaway (which should be on that list!)
The Getaway Makeup Clutch is different from other makeup bags because of how easily it organizes your products and makeup brushes. It was developed by Nicki Alkire, a celebrity hair stylist with an extensive resume working in film as well. You can imagine that she has travelled a lot in her job, and it took her years to develop The Getaway.
What really makes The Getaway different is the inside. On the left there’s a big zippered area, perfect for your shadows and blush. In the center is a removable zipper pouch, great for a lipstick or a few eye liners. The right side is my favorite! There are double ended makeup brushes, squeeze tubes for liquids such as concealer, BB cream or foundation, a sifting container for powder and even an eyelash curler! It all fits together in a compact case that zips closed.
Here’s what I have in my case:
1. It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+Illumination Cream with SPF 50+
2. Cover FX Custom Blot Drops
3. RCMA No-Color Powder
4. Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick
5. Glossier Cloud Paint in Puff
6. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
7. Trish McEvoy Instant Eye Lift
8. Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint
9. Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Lip Gloss in Obsessed
10. NYX Eyeshadow Base
11. IT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil
12. Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner in Santal
13. Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara
14. Chanel Eyeshadow Quad in Tisse Essential
15. MAC Eyeshadow in Jest
You can see that the tops just easily pop off the tubes. They’ll stay in place while you’re using products, but because of this you don’t want to put something really liquid in there. Foundation, BB Cream, primer… those are perfect.
The sifter top of the powder is a bit harder to get off, but it does lift off. I used a little skincare spatula to put my powder in there. I used my RCMA powder because the top of the product just easily screws off. I also love Laura Mercier’s powder, and I would probably just close the lid and shake to get out a lot of powder, then use the spatula to put that in the mini sifter. Note a butter knife would be a good alternative to the skincare spatula.
I’m impressed with the quality of the brushes included in the Getaway Makeup Clutch. The face brushes are a bit small, but if you want larger it’s easy to swap out for exactly what you want. They’re fine for a weekend away for me.
Note, there is a travel eyelash curler included. Because I have a prototype of the bag this isn’t the final curler, Nicki told me she found a better quality one that will be included instead. I do like that it folds up so compactly, I’m sure the replacement will fold up just as easily.
