Pregnancy safe beauty products can be super difficult and confusing. I have an entire guide devoted to what products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant and a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products. The list has gotten so large that I’ve decided to start listing brands in their own individual posts.
Here you’ll find pregnancy safe products from Heliocare as of 5/23/2020. If it is not safe, I’ll tell you why. All of the products meet my pregnancy safe criteria. If they release a new product that is not listed here, please comment below and I will add it. Note I will link to every product directly to avoid confusion. You’ll know exactly which product I mean.
Note, Heliocare isn’t readily available in the US. I have screened the UK/International versions, as the readers that ask me about it are usually international.

Ok for nursing but not pregnancy due to chemical sunscreen
I’m from South Africa and having a small cry of relief for finding your blog + email list. In between clients I feel like I got sucked into a mad abyss researching do’s and don’t’s for skincare when pregnant and I just want to make responsible choices. So grateful for your page. I am trying to find an oil-free mineral sunscreen. Below is as close as I have found in RSA. Because I have different access to products, I was wondering if this sunscreen is considered safe for pregnancy from your understanding?
PCA Skin Sheer Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 45

This one has a salicylate, so ok for nursing but not pregnancy, sorry!
Thank you so much for replying!. I thought I’d found an oil-free mineral one 😐 will keep looking. Thank you so much!
I couldn’t find this Obagi one on your Obagi brand list. I think it is chemical free + free from salicylate (from what I recognise).
Any chance it makes the cut?
Obagi Physical Defense Mineral Sunscreen SPF 40

INGREDIENTS: WATER (AQUA), TITANIUM DIOXIDE, ZINC OXIDE, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, DICAPRYLYL CARBONATE, GLYCERIN, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, DIMETHICONE, PROPANEDIOL, POLYHYDROXYSTEARIC ACID, CETEARYL GLUCOSIDE, ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF EXTRACT, BRASSICA OLERACEA ITALICA (BROCCOLI) EXTRACT, BIOFLAVONOIDS, DIPOTASSIUM GLYCYRRHIZATE, POLYGLYCERYL-2, DIPOLYHYDROXYSTEARATE, SODIUM STEAROYL GLUTAMATE, STEARIC ACID, LAURYL GLUCOSIDE, TRIETHOXYCAPRYLYLSILANE, XANTHAN GUM, SILICA, ALUMINA, CAPRYLHYDROXAMIC ACID, DISODIUM EDTA, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, PHENOXYETHANOL
Ok for nursing but not pregnancy due to licorice root (it’s the DIPOTASSIUM GLYCYRRHIZATE). It likes to hide in crazy chemical names 🙁
Hi! I am pregnant ab 16 weeks. And i’m using heliocare age active fluid. I wonder is this safe for pregnancy and nursing? Thank you.

Ok for nursing but not pregnancy due to chemical sunscreens, salicylate
This discussion will be helpful: You’ve been using a product with a “bad” ingredient
Hi,
From what I understand from your blog (Pregnancy skin care ingredients to avoid) , chemical sunscreen contains oxybenzone, octinoxate avobenzone etc..May I know why is sunscreen categorised as chemical sunscreen since I did not see any of the unsafe ingredients here ? Or did I missed out the ingredients here? Hope to hear from you soon.

The names you mentioned for chemical sunscreens aren’t the chemical names, they’re “trade names”, the ones companies make up to use with the public.
These are the chemical sunscreens in this formula:
Disodium Phenyl Dibenzimidazole Tetrasulfonate
Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid
Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine
Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate
Dipropylene Glycol Dibenzoate
Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone
Ethylhexyl Triazone
Thank you so much for the reply. 🙂
Hi, is it safe to use mineral sunscreens that contains nano particles such as titanium dioxide(nano) or zinc oxide(nano) in pregnancy? Or is it better to choose non-nano types?
We don’t have any info on that unfortunately. I’m currently treating both nano and regular as safe, so it’s really up to you.

Ok for nursing but not pregnancy due to salicylate
Hello! Thank you for all your work on this page, it’s so helpful! I’m not sure if it’s proper to ask you about this product since it’s not topical, but Heliocare makes a dietary supplement sunscreen with these ingredients: Polypodium leucotomos (Calaguala) extract (leaf) 240 mg
Corn starch, Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, Magnesium stearate.
Totally understand if this is not a product you’ll review! Thank you for the time-
I don’t review supplements at all I think you should discuss with your physician. The evidence for ingestible sunscreens is pretty slim though.
Ok great – I appreciate the response! Take care-
