It doesn’t have salicylic acid, but it odes have benzophenone-4, which is a chemical sunscreen. So ok for nursing but not pregnancy

Hello. I am a Pureology Sheer Hydrate shampoo lover. Now that I am pregnant, I’ve stopped using it because of the chemical sunscreen. What did you use when you were pregnant? I’m falling down a research hole and need help!

What is your opinion on using Color Fanatic Multi-Tasking Leave-In Spray (listed above as unsafe for pregnancy) if I only spray it on my hair and not the scalp?

Hello, I just realized my pureology shampoo and conditioner is considered unsafe for pregnancy due to chemical sunscreen and I am in my second trimester, I have been using it this whole time. How harmful do you think the affects are in shampoo for example? It’s only on for a couple minutes and then rinsed out. The conditioner, I only apply from mid to ends, never on my scalp. As a professional hairstylist I have a hard time finding “cleaner” shampoos that actually keep the hair soft and protected. Especially for highlighted hair. Hoping I have not done any damage in my pregnancy due to using these products!

Hello Christine! Thank you for all the great website.
I understand that the Pureology Color Fanatic Multi-Tasking Leave-In Spray has chemical sunscreen and salicylic acid in it, thus making it unsafe for pregnancy.

To clarify, if this leave in conditioner is only applied to only the mid and ends of the hair, then would it be for pregnancy? I was advised that leave in conditioners are not meant to be left on the scalp or roots. Thank you!

        Appreciate the quick reply! 🙂

Thank you for clarifying that although this product contains ingredients that are not pregnancy safe, it is safe to use during pregnancy as long as it is not placed on the hair shaft and not the roots/scalp.

Thank you again for all the great information on your site!!

Yes, exactly. I used to not screen them at all, but so many people would complain that they use something like a split end serum completely different and why am I so horrible that I won’t screen it for them? Screening all hair products just means I get fewer people yelling at me. (Sad but true.) But if you’re not going to use something near the scalp, I wouldn’t even look at the list. Just use it in a well ventilated area and wash your hands afterwards.
