Want to find out if your favorite product is safe to use during pregnancy or nursing? This is how I want you to ask.
Because, reasons.
The entire Pregnancy and Nursing Skin Care Guide has links to the posts, this is a good place to start if you are confused.
If you have a question about ingredients to avoid while pregnant or nursing, please ask on those posts.
If you have a question regarding a specific product, please start on the big list of pregnancy safe beauty brands where you'll find brand specific pages. If your brand is not included, you should ask on the brand list page itself.
DO NOT ask about your product on another brand's page. Why? Because people are trying to find products from that brand in the comments. The comments for X brand should be only for X brand. Not Y, Z and even G. I get complaints about this from other readers.
I also will not answer questions about product safety on other random posts around the blog. This happens more than you would think, people ask about a product's safety on a random tutorial from 10 years ago or something. But then they can't find that page again, and they ask over and over all over the blog. I will do the work to review the ingredient list over and over... it's a lot of time. And it is just ignored, and it's cluttering up the rest of the blog. If you're asking in the wrong spot, I'm just going to delete that question, because it's a waste of my time.
Because people are often looking for information on their own products, if you ask your question about a new Tula product on the Tula page, the next person is much more likely to find the information they need. If you ask about that product on the Ren Skincare page instead, then they won't find it. If you're asking on the right page, then you're more likely to see if someone else has already asked that question, or if I've already screened your product. I also get a LOT of complaints about the comments for a brand being cluttered up with other brands.
Please, save me hours of time a day. Ask in the right spot.
This is particularly true for the brand pages listing pregnancy safe skincare products. I have already reviewed the entire product lines for all brands with their own page, and I currently list the date I completed my review and the pregnancy safe products. Many readers ask about their own products, and often you can find your answer in the comments if it is not already on the page.
When using a comment to screen your own product, look at the dates to see if my page or the comment is more recent (I will change the date within the post when I update the list). Also check that your list is 100% identical to the list in the comments. Often lists around the world are slightly different, my lists are based on what is available in the US.
There's a reason I ask you to provide an ingredient list before I'll answer about your product.
Many brands use very similar names for different products. Sometimes those names change depending on the country or even the retailer. You might ask about a Lancome foundation, but depending upon your country or the store, there are about 20 options for me to hunt down, and this can take a long time. Please ensure that I'm checking the correct product by providing this information.
I get asked about many products each day, and to hunt down a product and then also review all possible iterations of that product for many retailers around the world.... just, no. I can't do that. And some readers expect me to do it, and get mad. It's just rude and disrespectful.
Please understand that I only have so many hours a day. Please save me time by providing an ingredient list if you are asking about product safety. It also ensures that I am screening the exact product you are interested in using.
Note, I need you actually give me the ingredient list, and not provide a link to it. Many brands will redirect to another site if you're not located in the target country (for example, Sephora's Singapore site sends me back to their US site, I can't even view the Singapore site). I also get people sending links that are trying to hack my site. I will not even click links that you send me. I ignore your links.
I also will no longer follow links given to me by readers. Why? Because I've had "readers" send me links that are actually hacking/malware attempts on me and my site. So spend the extra 10 seconds and copy and paste the ingredient list for me. Because I'm not going to follow the link you gave me, I no longer trust those links.
I am a person with a life. I have a job and kids. I also sleep.
I receive many rude comments each day, people get annoyed that I haven't checked their favorite products or if it takes me a few hours to write back. I will check comments right before I go to bed, wake up and have the same person 7x, getting increasingly rude because they don't have an answer yet. I am not a bot. I do not answer questions 24/7. You need to have patience.
Please be mindful that I have many people contacting me each day, I have already reviewed thousands of products for you to pick from, and I have not purposefully ignored your favorite product. I have blocked people from accessing the site in the past, and I'll block more in the future.
