I’m also looking for a non-greasy physical sunscreen that is safe for pregnancy if you can suggest any? Thanks

Hi, can you lik the study that demonstrates that chemical sunscreens aren’t safe please? I’ve been doing research and I cant find any. Most of them agree that chemicals sunscreen ingredients can get to the bloodstream but none of them have evidence that that affects the unborn baby. I undertant if you said that is best to avoid them just in case but why are you stating that it’s link to certain birth defects? I can’t find one study that is conclusive about this

And also evidence in mice (I don’t always look at animal models, but this might be the only info we can get) looking at neuro issues in relationship to both chemical sunscreens and nano-particles of titanium dioxide. There isn’t enough out there yet to say “avoid nano-physical sunscreens” but there’s enough coming out that many in the medical community are a bit nervous about it. Those nano-sunscreens have only been out for a few years and the evidence is new but concerning. Personally, I won’t buy them for my family and I know quite a few dermatologists who do the same.

Note, due to the nature of the science (experimenting on pregnant women?) you’re never going to have a “convincing” study. We can’t double blind these things, look at brain biopsies, etc. It’s unethical. It’s easy enough to avoid chemical sunscreens though. Perhaps I’m coming at this too much from the standpoint of a pediatrician (which I am), but if you could swap out a product or two and avoid this issue for your kid, shouldn’t you?

Hi there, just wondering which ingredient in the clean screen is the chemical sunscreen component as I thought titanium dioxide was a physical sunscreen?
Titanium Dioxide is a physical sunscreen. But there are more sunscreens in there.
