The Caudalie website says some of their products aren’t BF safe, but you have them listed here as safe. I’ve been using them and am curious- are they safe or not? I’m hoping they are otherwise I would feel awful! Have you seen their website?
I haven’t seen that on the caudalie site, but my list of things to avoid is pretty conservative. I’m not sure what they are saying to avoid that I don’t have on my list.

In the early months of pregnancy and when breastfeeding, as a precaution we recommend avoiding products concentrated in essential oils and containing glycolic acid. These include our night oils Vine[Activ] Overnight Detox Oil, Vinosource Overnight Recovery Oil, all of the products in the Vinopure Collection, Contouring Concentrate, Glycolic Peel Mask, Vinoperfect Concentrated Brightening EssencePurifying Mask, and the Instant Detox Mask,Beauty Elixir, as well as the Crushed Cabernet Scrub. Vinexpert Dietary Supplementsare also not recommended for pregnant women.
If you have the slightest doubt, we recommend that you consult your doctor, who is best qualified to inform you.

I have a question about vinopure natural oil control moisturizer because i can see in the ingredients that it has salicylic acid on it and this compound is usually known as non safe for pregnancy, if you could clarify this to me I would be greatful!

These are the ingredients for the Vinopure Natureal Oil Control Moisturizer. I don’t see Salicylic Acid listed on the Sephora site and this product isn’t on the Caudalie website. Where are you seeing the salicylic acid, is it on the packaging? You’re right that it should be avoided, I’m just trying to find out where you saw that.

I’m sorry. I made a mistake with the spanish name of the vinopure oil control lotion, it is not the same product than the moisturizer that appears in your post. The oil control moisturizer does not have salicilyc acid.

Please carefully read the post above- This list is everything that was pregnancy safe as of the review date. I had reviewed the entire brand at that time, and the products were included on a long list of pregnancy safe skincare. I have since separated the products out into individual brands as it got too long, and on my next review I will list out all of the other products. But if your product was available before that date, it is NOT included as it was not safe.

I have a question about tyrosine inhibitors in Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum. Caudalie states that the Viniferine (grapevine extract) in its Radiance serum prevents the appearance of dark spots by controlling tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for the overproduction of melanin: https://en.caudalie.com/about-caudalie/ingredients-and-patents/viniferine.html
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) isn’t in Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Radiance Serum, but I’ve read that it’s also a tyrosine inhibitor. You’ve mentioned that Licorice Root should be avoided because it acts through inhibition of tyrosine, and it is unclear the effects this could have on an unborn baby. Shouldn’t Viniferine and Vitamin C be avoided for the same reason? (I am hoping you’ll say Viniferine and Vitamin C are safe for some reason; otherwise I don’t know what I’ll do about my dark spots!)
Also, my understanding is that tyrosine inhibitors slow down pigment creation, but Niacinamide is not an inhibitor; it works by detering pigment transfer instead. Is that why you consider Niacinamide safe?
Yes, niacinamide is currently considered safe because it works slightly differently. Vitamin C is also felt to be safe because although it somewhat acts through the tyrosine inhibition, it is found in large amounts in many foods (a much higher level of exposure than topical use), but note that other ingredients that act more strongly through the tyrosine pathway like that have been somewhat implicated in birth defects, that’s why it’s pretty universally recommended to avoid hydroquinone, arbutin, etc during pregnancy. And note we’ll never be able to truly study if any of these ingredients are safe during pregnancy or not, the studies that would really prove safety are unethical to do. So we make assumptions and inferences. So the OBs I’ve talked to and the reading I’ve done says that we’re fine using Vitamin C and Niacinamide, and I consider the Vioperfect Radiance Serum to be ok.

May I ask you about the resveratrol line of Caudalie. Is resveratrol safe during pregnancy? Because I read articles about avoiding it. I am quite confused and I really love that products and would love to be able to continue using the during pregnancy.

The evidence isn’t strong enough that we recommend avoiding resveratrol (meaning, ACOG doesn’t have a statement against it and I don’t know any OBs that recommend avoiding it, but you can check with yours). There’s also a lot of studies looking into use of it during pregnancy and improved outcomes from different maternal nutrition issues. But note all the studies I’ve found pertain to oral supplementation, not topical use. So, not enough evidence that we say to avoid it at that higher exposure, and topical is a lower level of exposure.

There are many smaller companies launching hand sanitizer since you can’t get store brand, Purell, or Germ-X anywhere. Are certain ingredients a definite no in hand sanitizer for pregnant women? Is Ethyl Alcohol or Isopropyl alcohol better for pregnant women to use? I know that many use Ethyl Alcohol. Are hand sanitizers with rosemary oil in them no goes due to the rosemary oil? I’m a physician, with training in providing recommendations regarding medications and products during pregnancy and nursing. There are no definitive sources and very few absolutes regarding the safety of these ingredients during pregnancy and nursing, as the experiments we would need to do to prove our theories are all unethical. My list of ingredients to avoid is actually very conservative, but I don’t know any physicians who recommend avoiding all essential oils. It’s up to the person and their own comfort level.

I would like to understand why Caudalie by themselves as a company they do not reccomend using Contouring Concentrate during pregnancy(in the FAQ section) explaining that it is a concentrate of essential oils, though the firming Vinosculpt cream say it is ok because it is a cream. Clarins as a company they justify the Tonic oil as a safe pregnacy product because they use 2-4% of essential oils and dilute them accordingly. Since you list the Contouring Concentrate in the safe for pregnancy products , do you think it is exaggeration from the company, just wanting to be on the safe side?

Thank you for your point of view. Generally i think if a brand responsibly recommends a product and you as well in your site name it as safe, then it is reassuring. When a company is not sure about them product, then to my thinking better maybe choose another similar product from another brand.

I just read on their website that a couple of their products are not safe during the first trimester (including the instant detox mask). My 9.5 y/o has facial scarring from eczema and is starting to become self-conscious about it. We’ve been religious about SPF but I’m wondering if products like the Vinoperfect serum might be safe to help fade some of the darker marks?
They’re not intended for children, it’s really only about pregnancy safety. As a pediatrician I can say that with children who are toddler or older, they can use pretty much any products unless they have an allergy/sensitivity to something.
However, eczema doesn’t scar. I would strongly recommend seeing a dermatologist for a correct diagnosis and options for treatment. Many kinds of scarring don’t respond to topical serums (they may need a laser or something), or if you’re seeing variation in skin color as a scar, you may have an entirely different diagnosis such as vitiligo.
Hello doctor, I have a bit more of a generic question. When trying to conceive should partners with testes also avoid the products that are not safe for pregnancy or is that not a concern? For example should my husband stop using the VINOPURE PORE PURIFYING GEL CLEANSER during this time?

And I have always found that when working with my patients, it’s easiest if I’m as transparent as possible about to do or not do some things. A lot of this pregnancy stuff isn’t based on much other than the “bad feelings” that some doctors get about some of these ingredients and how they are able to be absorbed.

I do not know if you will have answers to this, given its not a specific beauty product, but I have tried looking everywhere and just cannot seem to find enough research or answers. Since I go to your website as my holy grail for all pregnancy safe products I figured it was worth a shot to ask.
Do you have any idea, thoughts or opinions on the safety of eyebrow tinting and lamination during pregnancy/nursing. I normally get these things done regularly but am now 20 weeks pregnant and have stayed away because I just don’t know if they are safe. I would love to have nice brows again lol, but will not risk the safety of my little girl.

I haven’t really thought about it honestly… I’m not sure? Getting hair dyed is fine is fine, so I think eyebrow tinting it likely similar. I don’t know what kind of chemicals they use in lamination.

Topical use of chemical sunscreens are specifically implicated in the development of Hirschsprungs, so yes, I’m sure.

I recently came across articles about two ingredients that wanted your opinion on. Resveratrol and Titanium Dioxide. I am finding conflicting information on the safety of both ingredients. What are your thoughts?
You can pretty much find info out there about avoiding everything possible, much of which isn’t based on much. Neither are considered an ingredient to avoid by the medical community. My list of ingredients that I screen out is very conservative and it’s here: skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy. Note, I have spent thousands of hours over the years on these lists… it wouldn’t make sense for me to leave out an ingredient I think you need to avoid. I do update them and add ingredients to the list of ingredients I screen out (I added Bidens Pilosa this last spring for example).

Also, I am not sure which ingredient provides UV protection in this products?
Do you know maybe of any other sunscreen in a form of a spray that is pregnancy safe? It is just as re-application is needed during the day and it is much easier to apply in a form of a spray over make-up.

All 6 are Ok for nursing but not pregnancy due to chemical sunscreens.
There are very few sprays that are pregnancy safe. But, the way most people use them, a spray sunscreen is providing SPF 1-2. It’s really not doing the reapplication that you think it is.
I’ve gone through above and bolded the sunscreens in each product. All are chemical sunscreens.
Hi. I am confused about the ingredient Mandelic Acid. You have it listed as not safe for pregnancy as the ingredient in Vinoperfect Micro-Peeling Instant Eclat, but someone mentioned a product, Vino perfect Brightening Daily AHA Micropeel (which is the same product) but you said it was safe. It also has Mandelic Acid. I’ve noticed a lot of people are asking about products that aren’t even sold in the US and that is why the product name change. Thanks.
Sometimes I’m human and make mistakes and overlook something (my eyes can go buggy looking at so many lists), but I do screen out mandelic acid as something to avoid.
I’m also US based and review US products for the blog since about 90-95% of my readers are US based. Many of the comments/questions are international readers, which is why you need to be VERY careful when looking at the comments. Don’t use the product names (or one that even sounds similar), you need to verify that the ingredient lists are exactly the same as what you’re looking for. Sometimes even the exact same named product will have variations in formula depending on regions of the world. Asia, the EU, US, Canada and Australia can all be different for the very large brands. But there are also some brands (like Elemis) that have no variation in formula around the world.
