Tula reformulated almost their entire line in the fall of 2019, many of their products changed categories. Comments about safety before that time do not reflect the new formulations, which I very recently screened and are in the post above. Please don’t look comments to get safety information with the new formulations.

That’s a reformulation if true. This list looks ok, but check your package to make sure you have the new one. I just pulled the cleanser out of my cabinet (I may have bout like 5 when they were on sale on QVC last year), and retinyl palmitate is listed in the middle of the ingredients. I just updated above that it is pregnancy safe with this list of ingredients if that’s on yours!

Hi, so I’ve been reading your blogs and I’ve recently ordered a few Tula products. The sunscreen was one of them but I am a little weary due to the fact that it’s a chemical sunscreen and has the he active ingredients: Avobenzone, Homosalate and Octisalate. I know you listed it as OK for nursing, but just being a cautious nursing mother I wanted to ask what your take on using chemical sunscreens while nursing is. I will appreciate any help! Thank you!

Nursing is different than nursing because things need to be actively secreted by the body into the milk, whereas the placenta can be thought of more like a big filter, a lot more gets across to the baby. If it makes you uncomfortable I would just avoid the chemical sunscreens while nursing, but we think it’s fine.

This has hemp in it. Here’s my disclaimer on that, it’s up to you how safe you feel this product is, that’s the only ingredient I’m worried about.
There isn’t info out there on the safety of Cannabis used topically during pregnancy or nursing. We do know smoking marijuana with THC has bad effects and should be avoided, though it hasn’t been fully decided if it is just the THC or something else as well.
Note that in theory Hemp and CBD do not have THC in them, it’s breed out of the plant is the official status. However, depending upon how it was processed many CBD oils will test positive for THC. But there are still the unknowns we haven’t decided about. I would not recommend using Hemp or Cannabis products while nursing or pregnant for that reason.

Hi!! WoW! Thank you so much for all of the hard work that you do in researching these products! The information is invaluable! 🙂 You have the Tula Cult Cleanser on your safe list above, but it has Lilial (Butylphenyl Methylpropional) in it which the old formulated Olaplex had in it and was removed from because of “damaging fertility or the unborn child” according to the EWG. So because the Cult Cleanser has this in it, should it be deemed unsafe? Here’s the ingredients:

The Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser:
Aqua/Water/Eau, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Lauryl Glucoside, Glycerin, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Fruit Extract, Cichorium Intybus (Chicory) Root Extract, Camelina Sativa Seed Oil, Lactose, Lactis Proteinum/Milk Protein/Protéine du lait, Yogurt Powder, Olus Oil/Vegetable Oil/Huile végétale, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Panthenol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Polyquaternium-10, Butylene Glycol, Glycereth-7 Caprylate/Caprate, Inulin, Pentylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Bulnesia Sarmientoi Wood Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Juniperus Mexicana Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Citric Acid, Sorbic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disteareth-75 IPDI, Fragrance (Parfum), Phenethyl Alcohol, Alpha-Isomethyl ionone, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Linalool, Phenoxyethanol
