Quite a few of my new makeup picks are at a lower price point, and I have to confess they are performing just as well as my pricier options (and sometimes they are better). A few of my recent favorites are beauty exclusives from Walmart, such as the perfect shiny lipgloss and a pregnancy safe lash serum. I’ve been a bit surprised browsing around the beauty section on Walmart, there are quite a few higher end brands such as Clarins, NARS and even MISSHA. It’s a great place to look for hard to find items, they have a lot in stock! L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara Primer/Base L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara This duo is the key to more volume. I have to admit, the regular mascara is pretty much always enough length and volume for my lashes, but there are times when I want to be a little extra. I apply the primer (which is a very light pink) and then immediately apply the mascara. I do swipe both wands with a tissue…

Concealer and Foundation Over 40: How to Avoid Caking https://www.15minutebeauty.com/makeup-avoid-caking-over-40.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/makeup-avoid-caking-over-40.html#comments Wed, 05 Sep 2018 20:08:02 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/?p=8786 Circles, bags, wrinkles. Under eye problems. As I’ve gotten older (I’m 41 now), those problems have gotten a bit harder to deal with. When I was younger, using the “triangle of light” concealer tip with a super pigmented concealer was the best concealer hack ever. Things are different now. Even though my under eye area is relatively free of fine lines and wrinkles, my favorite under eye concealers have become too thick, and by mid-afternoon they will settle and crack, creating wrinkles where I do not have them. I can not deal with this, I knew I had to start doing something different to hide my bags and circles once I hit 40. I did totally change up how I apply corrector and concealer to my undereye area, and after a lot of experimentation I did find some new favorite under eye concealers for over 40. But how do you incorporate this with your other makeup? What does this really look like in practice? I got this question on my how I apply liquid foundation post (note, I was 36 when I published this, so not dealing with the over 40 undereye issues yet). It was very difficult to put…

My Favorite Concealers for Over 40 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/favorite-concealers-over-40.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/favorite-concealers-over-40.html#comments Thu, 09 Nov 2017 15:00:41 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/?p=8219 I’ve written about my favorite concealers before, shared the favorite concealers of beauty bloggers, and even my favorite concealers specifically for the undereye area. The most recent of those posts was only in June of 2016, but it’s actually out of date already. Why? Because it turns out that concealers for over 40 are a bit different. I’ve really changed up how I utilize concealers over the last year or so, you can read more about that in my Best Concealer Hacks for Undereye Bags and Circles post. The gist of it is that as I’ve gotten older, I’ve found that less really is more. I don’t have wrinkles under my eyes, but a super pigmented undereye concealer sure can make me look like I do! So I’ve moved from more pigmented concealers to ones that are more liquid, easier to blend in to my skin and less likely to cake and look wrinkly. The Best Undereye Concealer for over 40 I can not use a super pigmented, thick concealer under my eyes any more. I just can not, it creates wrinkles that aren’t there and it makes me look more tired and older. Nope, all the nopes. So, I…

I’ve recently turned 40, and despite my diligence with sunscreen and good eye cream, things aren’t quite the same in my undereye area. I’ve decided it’s time to share my concealer hacks for dealing with the undereye area if you’re over 40. Those tips about baking on your concealer with powder just don’t work once you’re over the age of roughly 24. Here are my favorites! Remove all of your old makeup This seems intuitive, but it’s surprising how often this is part of the problem. Today’s long wearing eyeliners and mascaras are very difficult to get off completely. Simply washing your face with a good face wash at night isn’t enough, you’ll need to remove even regular eye makeup with a good eye makeup remover as well. I’ve also found that there are mornings that I still wake up with a little mascara smudged under my eyes, no matter how great I thought my makeup removal was the night before! So, I start my morning…

CoverGirl Outlast All Day Concealer and Matte Finishing Powder Review https://www.15minutebeauty.com/covergirl-outlast-powder-concealer-review.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/covergirl-outlast-powder-concealer-review.html#respond Fri, 14 Apr 2017 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/2017/04/covergirl-outlast-powder-concealer-review.html I’m a concealer snob. I like expensive concealers. They’re usually really well pigmented, blend well, and last all day. So, the fact that I’ve recently found two drugstore concealers that I can recommend and will keep using… that’s pretty amazing! The other concealer is Maybelline Dream Concealer, which is great because it’s a stick, but I don’t think it holds up super great under my eyes. I use it only on my face for blemishes. The CoverGirl is more multipurpose, I’ve been using it under my eyes and around my face. 820 Light and 830 Light/Medium The concealer comes in a very easy to use squeeze tube, it has a felted top. I have to be honest and say I don’t care about the felt top, I put the concealer on the back of my hand and apply it from there as usual. I dot it in a triangle under my eyes, around my nose, and a little on any blemishes. I buff it in small circles a bit with a brush (usually my EcoTools MicroBlending Brush), and pat it once or twice with a slightly damp BeautyBlender sponge. The concealer has medium coverage, though you can layer it to…

Perfect for a Touch Up? Maybelline Dream Concealer Review https://www.15minutebeauty.com/maybelline-dream-concealer-stick-review.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/maybelline-dream-concealer-stick-review.html#respond Wed, 05 Apr 2017 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/2017/04/maybelline-dream-concealer-stick-review.html For the last 6 weeks or so, I’ve been testing out a new concealer from Maybelline, their Dream Concealer. And it really has taken me this long to decide what I think! I admit that at first I was in total love with this concealer! I love that it is in a stick form, you can just draw it where you need added coverage, blend with a fingertip or sponge. At first I was using it all over my face. But then I started to notice that it was looking pretty creepy by mid-afternoon, but only in my under eye area. It was better over a lot of eye cream, but still looked not quite right around dinner time. So, it needs a mid-day touch up when used under the eyes. Where this concealer really does a great job is on the rest of the face. I had a few hormonal break outs last month, and there are still darker, pigmented spots on my chin, which will take a few more weeks to fully fade. When blending other concealers over them, I tend to blend so much that I remove most of the concealer with my fingertip. Oops! I don’t…

Teen Makeup: Get Great, Glowy Skin https://www.15minutebeauty.com/teen-makeup-get-great-glowy-skin.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/teen-makeup-get-great-glowy-skin.html#respond Mon, 25 Jul 2016 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/2016/07/teen-makeup-get-great-glowy-skin.html IMAXtree I remember when I first started using makeup at 13 years old. I went crazy for foundation. It was a thick, cakey mask that I wore every day for a few weeks. Then I noticed a girl in my class pointing at me and whispering one day in the hallway, and I thought I had something stuck in my teeth or something. I went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror, but realized that wasn’t the problem. The problem was the thick makeup, which wasn’t something that I even needed! Whether you’re using foundation, tinted moisturizer, a BB or a CC Cream, the overall goal of skin coverage should be evening out your skin tone and making things look more even. And you need to try to do that with the least coverage possible. Show as much of your own skin as you possibly can, it just looks much better! When you’re older, your skin tone will be uneven. The color will actually vary. It’s quite sad. As a teen, you don’t have this problem, so covering up with foundation that you don’t need is just a waste of time and product. I typically recommend that teens use…

The Best Drugstore, Super Pigmented and Multi-Use Concealers https://www.15minutebeauty.com/drugstore-pigmented-multi-use-concealer.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/drugstore-pigmented-multi-use-concealer.html#respond Thu, 23 Jun 2016 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/2016/06/my-favorite-concealers-best-drugstore.html I have a confession. I have a concealer problem. I own quite a few, but I seem to keep buying them. I probably have at least 20 in my “face” makeup drawer. As many as I’ve tried, there are some that I seem to go back to over and over. I repurchase them, they hang out on my vanity because they don’t make it back in to the drawer, and they get mixed into other products. Drugstore I’ve tried a lot of different drugstore concealers, but really one 2 come in enough shades, are easy to blend and give me all day results. 1. L’Oreal True Match Concealer (get it at ULTA, Target or Amazon) 2. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer (at ULTA, Target or Amazon) or Super Pigmented and Flexible I use these concealers many different ways. For me, they can be used on their own if I need a lot of coverage, I mix with a little moisturizer if I want to custom mix a tinted moisturizer, or I’ll add a little to a pre-existing BB/CC Cream if I want to increase the coverage. Note that because many of these concealers come in a much broader range of shades…

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Neutralizers and Color Correctors https://www.15minutebeauty.com/yves-saint-laurent-touche-eclat-neutralizer.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/yves-saint-laurent-touche-eclat-neutralizer.html#respond Mon, 21 Mar 2016 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/2016/03/yves-saint-laurent-touche-eclat-color-corrector.html I’m a big fan of color correcting skin products (learn how to color correct in this post), and for years I’ve used a thick cream concealer for correcting from FACE Stockholm. However, since I’ve somehow managed to use those same pots of product for… about 4 or 5 years now, they’re probably a little gross. And using such a thick product underneath my eyes has started to result in caking and it is making me look older than I am. I am only 38. Come on! No creepies when they aren’t there yet! So, recently YSL released new Touche Eclat Neutralizers. Everyone always rants and raves about the regular Touche Eclat, a light coverage concealer with light reflection that is apparently the secret to never looking tired. I haven’t figured out how to make myself never look tired with the regular Touche Eclat yet, but I admit that I splurged on their new color correctors. There are three colors of correctors: Green: Green is the best color to correct redness Peach: Peach is your answer to blue/purple tinted under eye circles Violet: Meant to correct “sallow” skin, it corrects yellow I didn’t need the Violet tone (I feel like I’d…
