Spring 2023 Updates with Sephora: A Hair Splurge with Dyson

It’s finally feeling like late spring or early summer here in Michigan, and I admit that as per usual, I’ve been revamping my look a bit as a result! I’ve been really craving easy, fresh and natural looks. I want my skincare, makeup and hair to all be “me but better“, effortless but pulled together. Part of this meant I splurged big time on my hair… yes, I bought the Dyson AirStrait! More on that below. First, I had some things already waiting in my cart, and when Sephora emailed me that they had the AirStrait in stock, I ordered immediately! I love signing up for email alerts from their website! Instead of continually check on the app or their website for a product to be available, I get notified automatically. How I’m Styling My Hair with Virtue: Product Picks

On Instagram I’ve been sharing a peek at my latest hair care obsession, Virtue. I’ve been raving especially about the Recovery Shampoo and Conditioner, and I’ve been using the Restorative Treatment Mask weekly (I’m at the point that I just automatically put one in my Sephora cart to include with every order). I’ve mentioned all of the styling products, but I haven’t really said how I’m using them. You can find all of these products at Sephora, and most come in travel size options as well! Beachy Curls My favorite way to style my hair is to curl it! Prepping my hair correctly can make my curls last until my next hair washing, which is usually 3-4 days away. I start by applying 6-In-1 Styler, which adds softness, shine and protects my hair from heat damage as well! I’m big fan of hair with volume, so I spray Volumizing Primer throughout the roots to about 3-4 inches down my hair. Finally, I add a pump of The Perfect Ending Split End Serum to just the ends of my hair. I then roughly blow dry my hair until it’s dry, but since I’ll be curling it eventually I don’t worry about…

Flat Iron Curl Tutorial

Now that fall is here, it’s time to start changing my beauty routine up a bit. I’ve made a few important changes to my hair recently including the new “lived in color” look with my ends being a bit lighter/brighter, and my long layers are now “arrow pointed” making them more weightless. All of that means my hair will grow out nicely, but more importantly, it means that I can continue my current obsession with big waves and curls! To get the look I’m after, I’ve been experimenting with flat iron curls! I’ve tried flat iron curls in the past without much success. It turns out that after quite a bit of practice, they get much easier. The trick is all in the wrist, and using the right flat iron. If you twist your flat iron just right, it will smooth the hair shaft while it curls, making your hair smoother, shinier and giving you a great curl. I started with freshly washed and blown out hair. I blew my hair out quickly, mostly with my head upside down to add some volume. I like to use a paddle brush to help smooth the hair a bit, but don’t go…

Recently I haven’t shared as many of my new beauty purchases as I should be, and I thought it was about time that I share some of my best finds! I’ve also purchased a bunch of new items that have completely changed how I quickly blow out my hair at home. I’ll share my new favorites and routine in this post as well. RevAir: The Latest Hair Dryer Splurge You’ll Want to Try

Have you heard of RevAir yet? This is a huge change in blowdryers. And I have to admit that I kind of love it. This is a complete change from any other blow dryer. Instead of blowing air at your hair, this is basically a vacuum. It sucks your hair up in it, and as your hair is (gently) pulled, it dries your hair. There is heat involved, though the high heat setting is quite a bit lower than other dryers that I have used. I filmed myself drying my hair this morning, so hopefully this gives you an idea of the results. It takes me 7 minutes start to finish to dry my wavy hair. My hair ends up softer and straighter than when I spend about 20-25 minutes with a traditional blow dryer and a flat iron. There’s a lot less heat exposure as well, which is great as I’m always trying to avoid damaging my hair! Easy Summer Beauty Update: With Pregnancy Safe Alternatives!

As soon as the weather gets warmer, which took a lot longer than most years in my part of Michigan, I feel the need to revamp my beauty routine a tad. I want lighter coverage foundation, higher SPF (though I use pretty high SPF all year), and a revamping of my makeup shades is in order. For me, this seasonal revamp isn’t usually a big thought out change. I’m not online shopping for coordinating highlighter and eye shadow. Instead, I’m usually out running other errands and I spot something pretty, and I fully admit that I have no choice but to put that shiny pretty thing in my cart. I’m like a beauty magpie. More often then not, this happens when I’m at Walmart. I have a Super Walmart less than 1/2 mile from my house, and it has a huge and amazing beauty section right next to all of the groceries. The beauty section there has the biggest and most diverse selection of makeup and skincare in my area. They always have the new releases, and some amazing exclusives. Get the Look: Amazing Waves and A Quick Chignon

I initially published the tutorial for these looks back in the fall of 2014, and recently stumbled upon it. I felt it was worth republishing, because this is the perfect day to night hair for holiday parties. I love how the waves created here by hairstylist Eiji Yamane of Eiji Salon for the Zang Toi Spring/Summer 2015 Runway Show, are both casual but polished. A little change and they are turned into a quick and sophisticated chignon. This is the perfect change up for heading out after work. Look One: Beachy But Polished Waves What You’ll Need: Note, Rene Furter products were used for this look Detangling Spray Sculpting Gel 1.5″ Curling Iron Glossing Spray, no longer available, my favorite alternative Vegetal Finishing Spray To Get the Look: 1. The style was started on dry hair. Hair was parted in the middle and lightly sprayed with water. If hair was tangled, Detangling Spray was misted throughout the hair and combed through. 2. The Best of Kerastase: Yes, It Is Worth It

I’m not sure how this happened, but over the last few years or so… I’ve become obsessed with one of the most expensive hair care brands out there. It started when I bought some shampoo and conditioner on Rue La La a few years ago. I noticed that with the shampoo and conditioner, my hair was easier to style. I actually got comments on Facebook pictures about my hair being shiny (completely ignoring the new baby in those pics), must have been some good hair! I had a tub of hair masque that I’d break out when really necessary. That little tub was babied for years, and it always gave me a week of good hair days. When I ran out, I was sad. I bought other salon brand products and they were good, and I enjoyed them. But there was always a bit of regret. They weren’t Kerastase. Suddenly, Kerastase started showing up on my doorstep (gasp!) Volume Without Teasing: Oribe Thick Dry Finishing Spray Review

I know I’m not the only one that wants to add a bit of volume at the roots of their hair, especially if that volume can last all day and maybe even not require teasing. Volume without teasing, it sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? It turns out that you can do this with the Oribe Thick Dry Finishing Spray. A couple of months ago my stylist Tiffany (she’s at One One Nine in Ann Arbor, Michigan) mentioned that you can spray Oribe’s Thick Dry Spray in your hair, and while that adds some volume, you can add mega volume by hitting your hair with your blowdryer. The heat makes the Finishing Spray plump up. For real. Which means your hair has added volume that won’t go away until you wash it out. I’ve found that this is a great way to quickly add volume to my hair that lasts all day, despite heat and humidity.
