It started when I bought some shampoo and conditioner on Rue La La a few years ago. I noticed that with the shampoo and conditioner, my hair was easier to style. I actually got comments on Facebook pictures about my hair being shiny (completely ignoring the new baby in those pics), must have been some good hair! I had a tub of hair masque that I’d break out when really necessary. That little tub was babied for years, and it always gave me a week of good hair days. When I ran out, I was sad. I bought other salon brand products and they were good, and I enjoyed them. But there was always a bit of regret. They weren’t Kerastase. Suddenly, Kerastase started showing up on my doorstep (gasp!) I have no idea how that happened, but I had styling products! Mousse! Hair Spray! And best of all… a sea salt spray. The only one that has ever really worked well for my hair. When Kerastase started showing up semi-regularly on…

Kerastase Résistance Extentioniste Shampoo and Conditioner Review https://www.15minutebeauty.com/kerastase-resistance-extentioniste-review.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/kerastase-resistance-extentioniste-review.html#comments Thu, 05 Jul 2018 14:00:18 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/?p=9239 My hair is damaged and dry. It’s my own fault really, I was the one that insisted on getting a loose body perm and then added a few highlights a couple months later. I also use a lot of heat in my styling. I’ve managed to repair a lot of the damage with Olaplex and repeated in salon and at home Kerastase Fusio Dose treatments, but I was searching for a new shampoo and conditioner duo that would baby my damaged hair a bit, without weighing it down. At my last hair appointment I told my stylist (I see Tiffany at One One Nine in Ann Arbor, Michigan) that despite my damage and the breakage I was seeing every day, I wanted to try to grow my hair out longer. Tiffany immediately recommended the new Kerastase Résistance Bain Extentioniste Shampoo and Fondant Extentioniste Conditioner duo. The Résistance Extentioniste products feature 2 main ingredients to help your damaged hair. The first is Creatine, which penetrates down into the hair shaft to “reinforce” the internal structure of the hair. The second ingredient(s) are ceramides, to smooth the surface of the hair. When the shampoo and conditioner are combined with the scalp and…

5 Fast Hair Masks That Work in Under 5 Minutes https://www.15minutebeauty.com/best-fast-hair-conditioner-mask.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/best-fast-hair-conditioner-mask.html#comments Fri, 23 Mar 2018 16:00:00 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/2014/02/best-fast-hair-conditioner-mask.html I’m a big fan of hair masks and intensive hair treatments. But, I usually don’t have time for the whole “slather this in your hair, then apply a shower cap and then a warm towel” thing. Those hair masks can take hours, sometimes even overnight! I do not have time for that. Instead, these fast hair masks only require a few minutes in the shower. I usually just swap my usual conditioner to use one of these hair masks instead! I apply the mask, shave my legs or pumice my feet, and then it is time to rinse the hair mask out of my hair! Instead, I find myself using up bottle after bottle (or tub) of quick intensive hair treatments. All of these take under 5 minutes, but most of them take under 3 minutes. Which means you can just swap out your daily conditioner for a hair mask once or twice a week while in the shower! Apply, shave your legs, rinse your hair. The timing is perfect! 1. Joico K-PAK RevitaLuxe Bio-Advanced Restorative Treatment: This 2-3 minute mask helps hair to resist damage and breakage and protects your hair color. I love that it is so fast…

How do Shampoo and Conditioner Work? https://www.15minutebeauty.com/hair-shampoo-and-conditioner.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/hair-shampoo-and-conditioner.html#comments Sun, 11 Mar 2018 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/2007/09/hair-shampoo-and-conditioner.html How do shampoo and conditioner work? In many ways, shampoo is simply a body wash, with slight modifications to improve it’s performance for your hair. The same basic principles that applied to soap apply to shampoo. The basic cleanser in shampoo is the same surfactant that is used in soap. Lathering agents, thickeners and other additives to adjust pH and add moisture and fragrance are added, but the basic shampoo is very similar to a body wash. Amphoteric- can change their behavior based upon pH of the environment, often they are very gentle on the hair and eyes, making them good options for baby shampoos as well as for those with chemically treated or fine hairbetaines derivatives (cocamidopropyl betaine) sultaines derivatives imidazolinium derivatives Sodium lauraminopropionate Purpose Ingredient Detergents Lauryl sulfates- the main surfactant in most shampoos since a great lather is made, works in hard and soft water. Winter Hair Pampering: Nexxus Bundle at Costco https://www.15minutebeauty.com/nexxus-hydrating-shampoo-conditioner.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/nexxus-hydrating-shampoo-conditioner.html#comments Mon, 15 Jan 2018 19:16:09 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/?p=8555 I know that I’m not the only one whose hair is starting to act up lately. I’ve been working non-stop it seems over the holidays at my “real” job, which means very little time with my family and even less time for me and my hair! That’s when the arctic freeze came roaring into Michigan. The cold weather, lower humidity and more time inside has combined with being seriously overdue for a salon appointment, resulting in dry hair that is frizzy and difficult to manage. I need some hair pampering, STAT! Recently I was in Costco, and came across this shampoo and conditioner bundle from Nexxus. Yes, they really do have salon level hair care at Costco. And this duo (Nexxus Therappe Shampoo and Nexxus Humectress Conditioner) is currently in stores as a bundle pack. This made it into my cart so fast! These are 2 of my favorite shampoo/conditioners. The duo pack has Nexxus Therappe Shampoo and Nexxus Humectress Conditioner. They’re classic products for a reason, they really just work. They are perfect for hair that is dry or needs a little extra love, but will not weigh your hair down with conditioners that it doesn’t need. I swear…

Your Worst Hair Problems Solved: What Product To Use https://www.15minutebeauty.com/your-worst-hair-problems-solved-what-product-to-use.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/your-worst-hair-problems-solved-what-product-to-use.html#comments Thu, 14 Dec 2017 17:00:25 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/?p=8162 If only we all had perfect hair. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. There’s always something you want to fix. Whether that’s dryness, damaged and split ends, brassiness, frizz or you just want to add volume at the roots, it’s hard to know how to fix things. Over the years I’ve fought all of those hair battles, here are my favorite products to fix all of those issues! Dry Hair I have two favorite products that help rehydrate my hair, deciding between the two depends upon how much time you have. My favorite treatment for dry hair is Darshana Hair Oil (here’s my Darshana review). It will not make your hair greasy! I put it very liberally in my hair and leave it in as long as possible. I’ve even done overnight, but if that worries you try throwing your hair up in a bun for a few hours and then washing it out. The results are amazing! If you don’t have time for an overnight treatment, then try swapping out your usual conditioner for Aussie 3 Minute Miracle in Moist (see my review here). It works fast and won’t weigh down your hair. Damaged Hair For damaged hair, I like…

Kenra Brightening Line Review: Purple Shampoo is Amazing https://www.15minutebeauty.com/kenra-brightening-line-review-purple-shampoo-amazing.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/kenra-brightening-line-review-purple-shampoo-amazing.html#comments Wed, 09 Aug 2017 15:00:37 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/?p=8000 I used to have blonde hair. It’s been a while, but one of the most annoying things about having blonde hair was brassiness. When my hair would start to get that coppery-orange tint, my blonde was not as pretty, and purple shampoo was the best solution. It’s been a long time since my own hair was blonde, but I’m now the mom to two blondies, and I recently realized that the little almost platinum blonde 2 year old was very brassy, and I needed to do something about it! Her 6 year old sister has darker blonde hair, but needed some purple shampoo as well. I headed to my local ULTA, where I found the Kenra Brightening line. It is a line with a purple shampoo, conditioner and a toning treatment product. I grabbed the shampoo and treatment product, as I already have a conditioner that I love for her hair. Kenra Brightening Shampoo The shampoo is meant to be used daily, and it has a light purple tint. It has a nice lather, rinses out easily and seems very gentle. I’ve used in on both of my daughters a few times, they haven’t complained about it stinging their eyes…

Intensive Treatment in Under 5 Minutes: Kerastase Fusio-Dose Review https://www.15minutebeauty.com/kerastase-fusio-dose-treatment-review.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/kerastase-fusio-dose-treatment-review.html#comments Wed, 12 Apr 2017 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/2017/04/kerastase-fusio-dose-treatment-review.html I’ve been pretty open with my hair struggles. I have thick, but fine hair. And it’s pretty straight, and an in between brown that’s kind of blah on it’s own. So, I mess with it, a lot! My hair can take a lot of abuse, but eventually even my hair can’t take it any more. There was that time a few years ago that I fried my hair, and too much heat styling (aka- obsession with my BeachWaver) resulted in hair that felt like a Brillo Pad. More recently, I’ve colored, bleached, permed and heat styled my way into damaged hair. I’ve been using deep conditioners, hair treatments like Olaplex, and avoiding heat styling. But still, my hair is breaking off and split ends are multiplying! I recently went to my salon for a root touch up and trim (I’ve been going for more frequent trims with the damage), and my stylist was surprised to see how dry my hair had gotten over the last few weeks! She decided that we would “go for the big guns” and do a deep treatment. The treatment Tiffany did on my hair was from the Kérastase Fusio-Dose Hair Lab, and only took about…

The Best Drugstore Hair Products https://www.15minutebeauty.com/best-drugstore-hair-products.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/best-drugstore-hair-products.html#respond Mon, 27 Mar 2017 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/2017/03/best-drugstore-hair-products.html I’m a hair product junkie. You name it, I want to try it. I have high end, luxury, salon only, and drugstore hair products stashed all over my bathroom! I’m constantly trying new products, new ways to style my hair, I can’t do the same thing more than 1-2 times. All of this (and a bunch of sponsored posts, truthfully), mean that I’ve tried a lot of drugstore hair products. Today for Makeup Wars we’re showcasing our favorites, and I have to admit, my list is rather… long. And difficult to shorten. I just went through my bathroom and the “hair” bin in my office and pulled out my favorites that were from the drugstore! I couldn’t not share some of them (and really, these are the ones I really like, I left plenty of stuff in the bin!) Oh well, I’m sharing it all! Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deep Conditioning Treatment Buy at Target, or Amazon I’ve written about this product for years. I talk about it with friends. I don’t even know how many bottles I’ve bought over the years, and since it’s only $3, this is something that is always in my shower. I love that…

Changing it Up: Smoothing Before Styling https://www.15minutebeauty.com/tresemme-keratin-smooth-review.html https://www.15minutebeauty.com/tresemme-keratin-smooth-review.html#respond Tue, 28 Feb 2017 01:02:00 +0000 https://www.15minutebeauty.com/2017/02/changing-it-up-smoothing-before-styling.html When shopping for hair products, in the past I’ve always immediately reached for the volumizing version of everything. I wanted volumizing shampoo, conditioner, styling products… you get the idea. The bigger the better! In the last 6 months or so I’ve really processed my hair a lot, something that has finally tipped my previously very healthy hair that could handle all sorts of abuse, over the edge. My hair is definitely drier and damaged, resulting in some frizz and it can be hard to get my hair smooth without using heat. The last thing that I want to do is add an additional heat styling step to my hair care routine each day! However, the unfortunately truth is that I do need a little smoothing now before curling my hair. Without it, my hair looks a bit frizzy and not well pulled together. I decided to try out TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Color Shampoo & Conditioner collection because they are formulated for color treated hair like mine, and it has Keratin and Moroccan Argan Oil to help treat my damaged hair. I also added in the TRESemmé Keratin Heat Defense Spray, which I thought would help protect my hair from even…
