Something New: Hiding my Roots with Gray Away

Best Root Concealer

I recently turned 40, which seems a bit daunting when you consider that I started this blog when I was 29. The beauty issues I’m facing now are very different than the issues I was facing back then. One of those issues is gray hair.

I only have a few gray hairs, but they’re in easy to notice locations like my hairline and where I typically part my hair. Over time my natural hair color has faded a bit, which I think is much more noticeable than the gray hairs. When my base color and highlights grow out, you can definitely see roots!

I’ve been on the hunt for products to help conceal those roots, and I was so happy when I found Gray Away from EVERPRObeauty. It comes in three shades, each featuring self-adjusting color technology, so there will be one that works well for you. The match is really, really good. In person you can’t tell I have roots! I’ve been wearing the Light Brown shade, which adjusts really well with my base color and highlights.

There are two versions of Gray Away, a root concealer spray and a root touch-up magnetic powder. They’re both really great, but after some trial and error I’ve found that what works best for me is to use the spray first and then go around the hairline with the powder. The spray can be very easily directed as it has a skinny nozzle, but since you pat the powder on with a pouf it has extra control.

The spray is perfect for using all over your head. I apply it just like dry shampoo, shake well and spray. I do hold the can a little closer to my head, roughly 5 inches. The small nozzle really lets you direct the product exactly where you want it. Other than my roots disappearing before my eyes, I can’t tell that I’ve applied anything to my hair. My hair is shiny, it doesn’t feel powdery and it doesn’t come off onto my fingers if I run them through my hair. It even survives sweating!

I love the Gray Away root touch-up magnetic powder for my hairline and to take with me for travel. It is a bit more compact, and the sponge applicator tucks away in the bottom. I just pat it wherever I need to cover up my roots and the powder does the trick! It also stays put all day.

Have you tried a root concealer like Gray Away? I think it’s perfect for covering up my roots in between salon visits!

You can find Gray Away by EVERPRObeauty at Walgreens, Ulta, Rite Aid, Target, Walmart and CVS.
