Hi Christine! Sorry for writing yet again, but I was wondering if the Probiotic Radiance Tonic (it’s one of the four new booster serums!) from Edible Beauty is okay to use while pregnant:

Gum, Lactobacillus Bulgaricus Ferment Filtrate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Organic Betula Alba (Birch Leaf), p-Anisic Acid, Glyceryt Capry1ate, Organic Eremophila longifolia (Emu Bush), Organic Achillea Millefolium (Yarrow), Phospholipids, Sodium Hyaluronate, Propanediol.

And also their sheet masks Bloom of Youth:
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Organic Glycerin, Bambusa Vulgaris (Bamboo) Extract, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), Citrus Australasica (Lime Caviar), Maltodextrin, Swertia Chirata Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Anisate, Sodium Levulinate, Althaea Officinalis Extract (Marshmallow Extract), Ribose, Punica Granatum Extract, Cymbopogon (Silk Oil Grass), Vaccinium Myrtillus (Bilberry) Extract, Glyceryl Caprylate, Litsea Cubeba (May Chang).

      1) Sometimes brands and I don’t agree, info here: Why does X Brand say this product is safe but you don’t think it is safe?
Specifically the part about a % being safe (which is NOT true in the medical world, FYI, just a brand thing), info here: But what about this % of an ingredient?

      2) I’m not sure if it was reformulated or Sephora had the wrong ingredients, but it definitely isn’t there now so I bumped it up to pregnancy safe. (Note, I double checked both the brand site and sephora)

      3) I recommend avoiding hemp in pregnancy, here’s my reasoning behind that. Ok for nursing
There isn’t info out there on the safety of Cannabis used topically during pregnancy or nursing. We do know smoking marijuana with THC has bad effects and should be avoided, though it hasn’t been fully decided if it is just the THC or something else as well.
Note that in theory Hemp and CBD do not have THC in them, it’s breed out of the plant is the official status. However, depending upon how it was processed many CBD oils will test positive for THC. But there are still the unknowns we haven’t decided about. I would not recommend using Hemp or Cannabis products while nursing or pregnant for that reason.

      4) ok for nursing and pregnancy

    Hello

Wondering if the Exotic Seed of Youth Anti-Aging Oil is ok?

Their ingredients seem ok but the description (copied and pasted below) calls out “pro-vitamin A” which I’m confused about.

    Description:
This potent synergy of highly absorbable oils is designed to soften the visual effects of ageing and to protect the skin’s moisture barrier, restoring the skin without clogging pores. Marula, Sacha Inchi and Sea Buckthorn provide an abundance of Omega 3,6 and 9 oils, along with vitamin C, E, beta-carotene (pro-Vitamin A) and flavonoids. This nourishing oil is formulated to improve moisture retention and visibly increase skin firmness for more youthful and radiant looking skin, without contributing to skin greasiness.

    Ingredients:
Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Seed Oil, Squalane (Olive Oil Derived), Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Seed Oil, Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae Rhamnoides) Fruit Oil, Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia Volubilis Linneo) Seed Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens (Rose Geranium) Oil.

    Thank you!

It matters when it’s listed as a separate chemical. When included in extracts and oils it’s different and fine. The ingredient list is only oils, not a chemical retinoid in site. It’s fine.

Hello Christine, I appreciate so much what you are doing. It is amazing!!! I have now chosen edible beauty as my pregancy care range:). They have on their website a ‘natural retinol’ option, called beauty reset drops:
    Here the ingredients:
Squalane, Bakuchiol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Orchid Extract, Magnolia Officinalis (Magnolia) Bark Extract, Spinacia Oleracea (Spinach) Leaf Extract, Citrus Paradisi (Pink Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Limonene^.

^Naturally occurring constituent in essential oils.

I have never used retinol, and don’t dare to start it now, but this sounds quite good. What are your thoughts on it?
    Thank you so much,
    Claudia

    Hi Christine!

I came across your very useful website as I was quite overwhelmed with what I can and can’t use (also a lot of conflicting information on certain ingredients).

Wanted to ask your opinion on Edible Beauty’s Precious Sea Hand Cream and whether that is truly pregnancy safe (they note it as pregnancy safe but with your previous comment regarding the cleanser, I don’t trust it as much anymore)?

    The current ingredients list is:

Water (Aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Camellia Oleifera (Camellia) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Glycerin*, Cetearyl Olivate, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter*, Euphorbia Cerifera Cera (Candelilla) Wax, Sorbitan Olivate, Orbignya Oleifera (Babassu) Seed Oil*, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Peel Oil*, Hydroxyacetophenone, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Callitris Columllaris (White Cypress) Leaf/Twig Oil, Xanthan Gum, Terminalia Ferdinandiana (Kakadu Plum) Fruit Extr act, Tocopherol, Citric Acid, Pleiogynium Timorense (Burdekin Plum) Fruit Extract, Podocarpus Elatus (Illawarra Plum) Fruit Extract, Sodium Phytate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Garcinia Mangostana (Mangosteen) Peel Extract, Ulva Lactuca (Seaweed) Leaf Extract, Melaleuca alternifolia (Snowflower) Cellular Extract, Sodium Hydroxide.

*denotes organic ingredient #nature identical preservative ^food-grade preservative

    Thank you for your help!!
